Who is Prof Imran Syed?

Professor Imran Syed is one of the world’s foremost authorities in Interventional Radiology (IR), with a career spanning over two and a half decades of clinical excellence, academic contribution, and educational leadership.

He serves as the Regional Lead for Interventional Radiology at MSE, the Clinical Lead for Radiology & Uro-Radiology at Basildon University Hospital, and the Learning Lead for Interventional Radiology at the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), UK.

Internationally recognised for his expertise, Professor Syed is a contributing author to Chapman’s Textbook of Radiology, one of the world’s most respected radiology reference texts.

As a Professor of Interventional Radiology, he has led cutting-edge work in arterial and venous interventions, with special focus on:

• Arterial embolisation

• Angioplasty and vascular revascularisation

• Oncological interventions

• Venous access and obstruction

• Urological radiology

He is the founder of the Radiology Resident Forum (RRF) — the largest global educational platform for radiology residents and students — and the creator of innovative classification tools such as the Basildon Protocol and the SVOSTA framework, which are increasingly used in international IR practice.

Prof. Syed is also a prolific educator and mentor, having trained and guided hundreds of radiologists across Europe, Asia, and North America. His lectures, protocols, and frameworks have helped shape the current standards in image-guided therapies, and he continues to be at the forefront of IR innovation in both the NHS and academic arenas.
